Scurrilous Spanish Tactics to blame over UEFA Gibraltar Decision - Watson

5.50.38pm BST (GMT +0100) Thu 5th Oct 2006

Graham Watson, Liberal Democrat MEP for the South West and Gibraltar, has expressed dismay at today's UEFA decision to delay the entry of Gibraltar as an official footballing nation.

Commenting, Mr Watson said:

"It is abundantly clear that 11th hour sabotage by the Spanish authorities has resulted in the delay of what would have been a proud day for all Gibraltarians.

"Since July, UEFA has been legally bound to accept Gibraltar as a member. Its decision to not formally do so is a depressing setback for Gibraltar and its citizens."
