Cutting one of the ribbons to officially open the long-awaited Cocklemoor Bridge in Langport Somerset, Liberal Democrat MEP for the South West and Gibraltar Graham Watson has hailed the project as an important marker in Langport's overall development.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Graham Watson said:

"I'm delighted to see the Cocklemoor Bridge project finally come to fruition with today's opening ceremony. The bridge will stand as fitting tribute to all those who have worked so hard to get the project this far. As burgher of Langport and MEP for the region I am delighted with this attractive new facility and pleased that part of the cost of it was met from EU funds."

The Cocklemoor Bridge forms the centrepiece in a series of public artworks created to enhance and celebrate the Parrett Trail - the 47 mile footpath that runs alongside the river from source to mouth. Part of the funding for the bridge came from the European Union.

The bridge was officially opened by Lady Gass, the Lord Lieutenant of Somerset and Graham Watson MEP, who both were accompanied by school pupils from Huish Episcopi Science and Language College and Huish Episcopi Primary School.
