Graham Watson MEP has warmly welcomed the news of the rescue of Ingrid Betancourt from her six year long detention at the hands of the revolutionary armed forces of Colombia (FARC), along with three US hostages and 11 Colombian military personnel.

Commenting Graham Watson said

"Whilst conscious that many more innocent people remain in captivity in the Colombian jungle, this is obviously a moment to rejoice. It is time that the FARC lay down their obsolete struggle, release the remaining prisoners and allow their country to regain peace and stability."
