South West school pupils aged between 10 and 15 years have been invited to enter a competition to raise awareness of counterfeiting and piracy

The EU competition offers the winning entrants exciting prizes and attendance at a star-studded event held at the European Parliament in Brussels.

Local Lib Dem MEP Graham Watson is inviting entrants from the South West to design a logo for the European Observatory on Counterfeiting and Piracy, or to produce short videos, games or stories that raise awareness of the issue in schools.

He said;

"Cross-border counterfeiters are increasingly targeting young people. This competition will allow schools and pupils to arm themselves with knowledge of the issue, and take the fight back to these "pirates"!

"I know how creative South West school pupils can be, so I fully expect to welcome a local winner to the European Parliament in June!"

More information on the competition, with supporting materials and details of how to enter, can be found on the European Commission's website; http://ec.europa.eu/internal_market/iprenforcement/observatory/real_fake_competition_en.htm.
